TCS Weekly News 1-11-18

Dear Thomaston Center School Families,

This week we received our new One School, One Book novel!  During our character assembly yesterday, we met Ally Nickerson, the main character of the novel Fish in a Tree.  Mrs. Wong read aloud the first paragraph and we briefly discussed what conflict Ally may encounter in the book.  Since we are focusing on the character trait of caring this month, we also asked the students to think about how Ally demonstrates the trait of caring and who may help care for her.  Students also received the suggested reading pages that will correspond with our trivia game.  However, due to our recent snow storm, the dates are slightly off.  In the interest of caring for the environment and being a good global citizen, we decided not to reprint copies of this sheet but rather share them with you electronically.  You may access the suggested reading pages here:  Fish In a Tree Reading For the convenience of students, they are also listed on our Fish in a Tree trivia board in the main corridor at Center School.

Please save the date for some exciting choral and band opportunities!  Our chorus has been invited to perform at the St. Jude’s telethon on March 4, 2018 and our band will be performing on March 28, 2018.  Please see the attachments for more information: Save the Date Chorus Save the Date Band

Next week, our fifth grade will be traveling to Hartford.  Some of us will be touring the Capitol while others of us will join Gwyn Romanzi in the Kid Governor’s Inauguration.  Although Gwyn has not been elected our new governor, we are proud to share she will be working closely with our new 2018 Kid Governor!  We are also so proud of Gwyn and her efforts to help combat childhood poverty!

This week is an A week.   Therefore, Mrs. McAtee’s class, Mr. McMahon’s class, and Mrs. Knowlton’s class will have physical education when they have specials tomorrow.  Mr. Grabherr’s class, Mrs. Rozzi’s class and Mrs. Lascko’s class will have technology education when they have specials tomorrow, and Mr. Dwan’s class, Ms. Fuller’s class, and Mrs. Protzmann’s class will have music when they have specials tomorrow.     It is also a WIN week; advanced band students should bring their instrument to school on Friday.

As always, we appreciate your interest and support of your child’s education.
