TCS Weekly Update 2-1-2018

Dear Thomaston Center School Families,

Thank you to all of the families that were able to come and support our students last week with the annual Thomaston Center School Spelling Bee. We are grateful for the Education Enrichment Fund of Thomaston for their continued support of this exciting program.  We are pleased to report that for the second year in a row, Cierra O’Sullivan will go onto compete in the Connecticut State Level Spelling Bee in March.   Francesco Treglia earned second place while Travis Hubert earned third place in last week’s competition.  We are proud of all of our spellers who competed in the program.

Tomorrow we will be having our Hoops for Heart Kickoff Event at Center School.  This annual fundraising event helps raise awareness and financial support for the American Heart Association.  Please click here for more information:  Hoops For Heart 2018 Questions about this program should be directed to Mrs. Wojtczak at [email protected].

Please join us next Wednesday evening, February 7, 2018 as we celebrate the sixth graders ideas and achievements in our first ever “Invention Convention Celebration” at Thomaston Center School.  It will be held at 7:00 pm.  We hope to see you there!   As a reminder to all sixth grade students, projects are due by Monday, but they can be turned in early.

The hundredth day is coming! It will be on Friday, February 9, 2018, pending snow days.  To commemorate this event, we will be sponsoring a 100 Day Math Contest.   Information was sent home with your child earlier this week.   A grade level winner will be chosen based on the correct answer and best written explanation. The class with the highest percentage of class participation will be awarded a pizza party. Participation in this contest is optional and work will need to be completed at home.  Entries will be accepted up until the hundredth day, but no late entries will be accepted.

The TCS Drama Club is back!  This yearwe will be performing The Lion King Junior in May.  Auditions will be held on February 21 and 22, 2018. Please see the flyer for additional information:  Lion King Auditions 2018    Questions should be directed to [email protected]

On Wednesday, February 21, 2018 we will be hosting a PAC meeting at Black Rock School.  This meeting will begin at 6:00 pm.  Please note the change of time.  The meeting will be followed by the PTA meeting at 7:00 pm.  Also at 6:00 pm at Black Rock, the grade six dance committee will be meeting.  Please contact the PTA for additional information.

This week is an A week.   Therefore, Mrs. McAtee’s class, Mr. McMahon’s class, and Mrs. Knowlton’s class will have physical education when they have specials tomorrow.  Mr. Grabherr’s class, Mrs. Rozzi’s class and Mrs. Lascko’s class will have technology education when they have specials tomorrow, and Mr. Dwan’s class, Ms. Fuller’s class, and Mrs. Protzmann’s class will have music when they have specials tomorrow.     It is also an Academy week; band students do not need their instrument to school on Friday.
