Dear Thomaston Center School Families,
Yesterday, grade four students participated in the National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP) testing. This is a national assessment designed to monitor what United States students know and can do in key subject areas at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. Only grade four was selected to participate and students did a great job! For more information on this assessment, please visit: http://nces.ed.gov/nationsreportcard.
Thank you to all of the students who participated in the Hundred Day Math Challenge this year! Entries were due this morning.
Last Friday, Mrs. Wojtczak met with students last week to explain the Hoops for Heart Challenge and we are currently participating in this annual event. Information was sent home with students last week. Please contact Mrs. Wojtczak at [email protected] with any questions about this program.
As I have mentioned previously, we are celebrating eighty years as an educational institution this year. When we first opened our doors, we educated our oldest students in the district, but have since moved to be an elementary school. To commemorate this event, we are hosting an Open House and Decade Discovery. The Open House will be from 4:30-7:30 pm on Thursday, May 30, 2019. All are invited to attend! In addition, Frankie’s restaurant will be on hand to cater the event. All current Thomaston Center School students will receive a free meal for that evening. Family members may purchase meals in advance for $8.00 each. (If you choose to pay in cash, exact change is preferred.) However, we are only taking pre-orders as Frankie’s need an accurate count for the evening. We will not be able to take an order after May 1, 2019. For your convenience, you may find a copy of the order form here: Frankie's Order Form Thank you to the families who have already turned in information!
Drama club auditions are on February 13 and 14, 2019. Students need a note to stay after school for auditions. Please send in a note to your child’s teacher if you grant your child permission to stay. Students will also need to know whether they are riding the late bus or walking or getting picked up at 4:00 pm after auditions. Please include this information in the note. If your child would like to participate as a member of stage crew, they may sign up in the main office. Please also send an email to Ms. Andrea Bingham at [email protected]landmarkcommunitytheatre.org. Ms. Bingham will contact you once the play gets close to production so students may start coming to rehearsals. The show will be held on June 6 and 7, 2019 at the Thomaston Opera House. Information may be found here: TCS Drama Information
Please save the date for the Invention Convention! The convention will be held on March 19, 2019 at 3:00 pm in the TCS gymnasium. All sixth graders will be participating and all are invited to attend!
Thank you for your continued interest and support of your child’s education.
